Hello, 2018

I know that most of the posts of 2017 (from my Facebook page, to be truthful) were littered with depressing, whiny moments, but as I was transcribing them, I realized that they are necessary.
Every writer has their ups and downs, and sure, it's easy to hide the harder moments in our 'perfect' social media world, but to me, that isn't telling the truth. If, in some wild universe, someone who looks up to me as a writer cares to read my blog someday, I want them to see that it isn't all peaches and cream. Or rainbows and unicorns. Or (insert your favorite things here).
There are days (or months, or maybe even a year) that nothing feels like it's coming together.
You're in a fight with your characters and they don't want to come out and play.
You sometimes have to choose family over writing (which I encourage because if you don't have someone standing behind you, there will be no one there to catch you when you fall, among other really important reasons, which may have to be another post).
You sometimes have to get up from that chair and walk, because you've put on an unsightly amount of weight because writing has become your junk food.
I've never been one to think that a year is cause for a rough time, but I am looking forward to putting 2017 behind me. I'm already feeling the difference: the clearer mind, the determination to finish my goal. I want to share my moments with everyone, and hope that someday it all comes together and I can look at the finished product and say 'it was worth it'.
2018, I'm ready.
