Meet Jovie

Couples were waltzing, a swirl of vivid colors spinning around the designated green-marbled dance floor, gliding to the beautiful music from a twenty piece orchestra seated in the front of the room. The material of the gowns and the diamond accessories adorning everyone made Jovie’s moss green one seem dusty, old, and inadequate for being at a royal prince’s birthday ball.

Her red hair was a mess of braids and loose curls pulled into a bun, obviously done herself. The only accessory she wore was a pearl necklace that Queen Isabella had loaned her. Her minimal makeup didn’t hide the freckles splashed across her nose and cheeks, and she was sure she looked closer to Princess Rose’s delicate twelve years of age instead of her own sixteen years, much closer to James and his guests.

“Careful. This is a lot different than dancing in the rain,” a voice said low enough for only her to hear.

Jovie spun around. Her breath caught when she saw Gabriel standing before her, tall, lean and muscular. She secretly wished she could sweep the few strands of brown hair that always fell across his brow back into the stylish mess that brushed his collar. The smile on his handsome face accentuated the dimple in his left cheek.

“Wow,” he said, stepping a little closer. “You look amazing.”

“So do you,” she admitted, blushing as she forced her green eyes to stay locked on his intense steel blue pair.
